Lunch Specials; Monday through Friday Only; 11am-2pm
Ray Ecklund is our full time daytime chef. He works Monday through Thursday, 5:00am- 2:00pm every week. Ray is well known and liked by our regulars and local customers. Ray's daily specials vary, some are seasonal, but all are fresh and unique. Ray's specialties are Italian cuisine and Chinese fare. Some of Ray's customers have said that his Italian Spaghetti Sauce is the best they've ever tasted. We have a daily sandwich special and a daily dinner special for lunch. The sandwich special may include either a paired side or a choice of soup, salad, or fries. The dinner special will include sides that Ray has paired with it. There is no salad bar with the lunch specials, but it can be added to any lunch item or special for an additional $3.50. The salad bar includes soup and is all you can eat. To find out what our daily specials are, listen to KROX 1260 AM around 11:15 am and either Gail or Paul will read off Ray's lunch specials.
Evening Specials; Monday-Sunday; 5pm-Close
Dinner specials also vary and may be seasonal. Paul will occasionally present an item from a food show through his food vendors for nightly specials. The nightly special includes a mini-loaf, choice of potato (unless a paired side is included), and salad bar. On Wednesday nights we have a second special which is Ray's Oriental Chicken Salad.
Ray's Oriental Chicken Salad; Wednesdays
The one set special we have is Ray's Oriental Chicken Salad on Wednesdays. We do offer it for lunch and as a second special for dinner. It started out on a smaller scale and it turned out to be very popular so Ray decided to offer it Wednesdays. We have many people who will call and order take out or will come in on Wednesdays just to order the salad. The salad includes a tasty but healthy combination of Spring Lettuce Mix; Juicy, Breaded Chicken; Slivered Almonds, Mandarin Oranges, Chow Mein Noodles, and Ray's Secret Dressing.
Darrel's Chili
Darrel Vrem is our part-time day chef and has been here for many years. His chili has won the United Way Chili Cookoff here in Crookston for awards for several years, ranging from "Best Overall" to "People's Choice". We have Darrel's chili available on Wednesdays from 11-2, and on Saturdays from 11-2.
Gail's Salad Bar
The salad bar here at the Irishman's Shanty is outstanding and always special. It is ala carte and includes soup. Gail Hoffman, full-time employee of 16 years, makes all the salads fresh and homemade. Gail starts most of her mornings preparing salads and/or soups in the kitchen and then takes over the bar dining area for the rest of the day. Some of her homemade specialties include crab macaroni and bacon and broccoli salad.
Soup(s) of the Day
Between Ray, Gail, and Darrel, we have a good selection of unique homemade soups weekly. We put out two soups for the lunch rush from 11am-2pm. We keep one out from 2pm-close.
